WHO WE ARE We travel the world looking for unique, style-conscious and affordable items. We support women-owned businesses and co-ops, who provide healthy, safe and progressive working conditions, as well as fair wages. The products we purchase benefit local workers in the various communities. We strive to build a physical bridge to others through our products. We support and encourage Fair Trade businesses, the traditions of hand-crafted goods, and believe in global, social and personal responsibility. Many of our products are largely hand-crafted and when sewn, are generally sewn on individual machines by skilled workers. The purchase of these products benefit both the artisans, and the communities in whcih they live and work. Other products also benefit the environment through use of materials that are made from recycled wood or plastic. HOW WE BEGAN Anie Grant began from a passion for travel combined with a love for high-quality, artisan products. I'm a treasure hunter at heart, and love to wander and shop the streets of exotic cities. There is something very reassuring and peaceful in watching the shopkeepers open their stores for the day, sweep the front walk, putting out new product. A routine that you would see in virtually every city in the world. It makes me feel connected where ever I am. When I decided to start my own business, I made a list of my passions and my skills and my previous work experiences. I even asked family and friends two questions: "What do you think I love?" And "What do you think I'm good at? [As suggested in a book by Cheryl Richardson.] The latter is especially important, as we often dismiss skills and aptitudes that come easily to us. Placing more value in the things that are difficult. Travel is a primary passion of mine, so the work had to include that. For years, I've traveled the world, bringing home gifts for friends and family, only to have them ask me to "get one of those for me next time", or say "I would love one of those, too!". So this business is a perfect fit for me. MISSION STATEMENT Our mission is to be a bridge to the World through providing unique, hand-crafted items which benefit the artisans, and local workers. We support women-owned businesses from developing nations, and thereby provide an outlet to the Western market for local artisans. We are committed to working only with companies of the highest integrity. Those who provide healthy and safe working conditions, pay fair wages, and provide opportunities for growth and advancement. We believe in global, social and personal responsibility. |
